Unfortunately, this useful tip seems buried under other noise and hence I decided to put a separate blog post. Even some of the drop down menus on several sites could not be displayed. Choose that, and follow the directions to use the source. SOLUTION: I ran sudo apt-get install -f and then sudo apt-get update which I found from some other post that was trying to solve dependencies.
