Edit: Steps I made: Extract gcc-4.8.1.tar.gz to a folder Open terminal window cd gcc-4.8.1 ./configure --build=x86_64-linux-gnu make -j4 I don't know what I did differently but it finally compiled. navigate here
After following sugestions, I tried setting CPPFLAGS, CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS to -I/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu and then "-isystem /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu" when calling configure and the result was: at first CPPFLAGS was ignored and the same Build log below. >>> >> I bet /usr/include/asm is an empty directory on your system while it's >> supposed to be a symlink to x86_64-linux-gnu/asm. - Is there a reason not to? –Meenor Sep 30 '14 at 1:14 Well, you configured GCC without giving a suffix.

- Setting both CFLAGS nad CXXFLAGS got the compilation further, but still a similar error.
